Pyronaridine(CAT: I008930), known as Malaridine, is an antimalarial drug. It was first synthesized in 1970 and has been in clinical use in China since the 1980s. It is one of the components of the artemisinin combination therapy pyronaridine artesunate (Pyramax). Pyronaridine is a promising agent against the erythrocytic stage of malaria parasites. It exhibited low toxicity and had no cross-resistance to chloroquine. Clinical administration in malaria cases showed high efficacy and mild side effects.
