Stearidonic Acid (SDA) is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) with four double bonds, found in plant sources like hempseed and echium oil, as well as certain fish oils. SDA is a precursor to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in the human body, playing a significant role in anti-inflammatory pathways and cardiovascular health. It is more readily converted to EPA compared to alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), another plant-based omega-3. Due to its beneficial properties, Stearidonic Acid is being studied for its potential in reducing inflammation, promoting heart health, and serving as a sustainable alternative to fish-derived omega-3 fatty acids in dietary supplements.
