Taurodeoxycholic acid is a bile salt formed in the liver by conjugation of deoxycholate with taurine. Within the gastrointestinal system this natural steroid stimulates both the production of bile by the liver and the flow of bile into the duodenum. Bile salts are naturally occurring biosurfactants that can be used to solubilize lipids and membrane-bound proteins and also as a vehicle to assist with vaccine delivery.
