Teprenone(CAT: I004558), also known as geranylgeranylacetone, is a synthetic acyclic isoprenoid compound. It is derived from geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate, an intermediate in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. Teprenone has been investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in various conditions, particularly in gastric ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions. It is believed to exert cytoprotective and anti-ulcer effects by promoting the secretion of protective gastric mucus, enhancing mucosal blood flow, and inhibiting the formation of reactive oxygen species. Teprenone is available as an oral medication and is commonly used in certain countries for the treatment of gastric ulcers and prevention of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced gastropathy.
