Trichlorofluoromethane, also known as CFC-11 or Freon-11, is a halogenated hydrocarbon. It was once widely used as a refrigerant, propellant in aerosol sprays, and blowing agent in the production of foams. However, due to its detrimental effects on the ozone layer, trichlorofluoromethane has been phased out under the Montreal Protocol. Despite its historical usage, the production and consumption of trichlorofluoromethane are now heavily regulated to mitigate its adverse environmental impact.
