Varespladib methyl is a prodrug of varespladib, a potent inhibitor of secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2), an enzyme involved in inflammation and the production of pro-inflammatory lipid mediators. By inhibiting sPLA2, varespladib methyl has been studied for its potential to reduce inflammation and prevent cardiovascular events, such as acute coronary syndrome. It has also shown promise as a therapeutic agent in treating snakebite envenomation by neutralizing venom sPLA2, offering a potential dual application in cardiovascular and toxin-related conditions.
