Xestospongin C (CAT: I010173) is a naturally occurring marine compound derived from the marine sponge Xestospongia exigua. It is a potent and selective inhibitor of inositol trisphosphate (IP3) receptor channels. Xestospongin C specifically targets the IP3 receptor, which is a calcium release channel located on the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. By inhibiting the IP3 receptor, Xestospongin C blocks the release of calcium from the endoplasmic reticulum, thereby affecting various calcium-dependent cellular processes. Xestospongin C has been widely used as a pharmacological tool to investigate the role of IP3 receptors in cellular signaling pathways. Its application extends to studying calcium-mediated events such as neurotransmission, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and intracellular calcium homeostasis.
